The town said, “I need an A2 survey.” Do you do that?

Yes, we do! In fact, the majority of the surveys we conduct are A-2 surveys. What you need to understand is that the term A-2 refers to the precision of the survey control network and is not a specific type of survey.

As such, when you ask some surveyors for an A-2 survey, you might not be getting a quote for exactly what you need. You run the risk of being charged for a survey that goes well beyond your particular scope. Conversely, you could end up paying for a survey that does not provide you with exactly what is needed for your particular situation.

Therefore, whenever you request a quote from any surveyor, please try to be as detailed as possible with respect to why you are requesting the survey. The more information you can provide, the more specific the quote should be.

We cannot tell you the number of times after speaking with a potential customer, we learned that not only did they have an immediate need to know where their boundaries were located on the ground, but they also had a one-, two-, or five-year plan that would require a different type of survey. If we didn’t get to know them and their situation, we would have quoted them for one type of survey, and then they would have had to come back to us at a later date to have that survey updated for their next project. All of this would have cost the client more money than getting the updated survey type from the outset.
