The short answer to this question is no. In the State of Connecticut, the surveyor is not required to file the completed survey on the land records. As such, we leave it up to the client to determine if they want to file a copy of the survey.
Should a client wish their survey to be filed, we just need to be informed of this decision at any point before, during, or after we perform the work. When the survey is completed, we will then have the mapping printed on a special material called mylar and deliver the printed map to the client. It would then be the client’s responsibility to take the mylar copy to their town/city clerk’s office and request that the map be filed.
Town and city clerk offices charge a small fee, typically less than $25 per map, to file a survey on the land records. In addition to this cost, our cost for preparing a mylar copy of a survey, if not already included within the quoted fee, is typically $100 per sheet.
