How long will my survey take?

Similar to the question regarding the cost of a survey, the simple answer is that it depends on several variables. The time for all surveys depends on the following:

  • Current workload – We typically have anywhere from ten to twenty, or more, active surveys we are working on. Therefore, we provide a schedule with sufficient time to fit your survey in, as well as enough time for us to get the actual work completed.
  • Size and shape of property – The larger the property or the more boundary lines it has will impact the time it takes to conduct the field survey work.
  • Terrain, vegetation, weather, and time of the year – While separate variables, these four factors all work hand-in-hand with respect to how long it takes Juliano Associates to complete a survey.
  • Survey requirements – The type of survey and what is required by the client, regulatory agency, title company, or other design professional can also influence the time that it may take to complete a project.
  • Past surveys – Having surveyed near a property in the past or being able to access records of past surveys plays a significant role in determining the time a survey will take. This is one of the reasons that we are so passionate about obtaining and preserving the records of other survey companies within Connecticut. If you want to know more about this, please read about my Professional Side Quest.
  • Familiarity with an area – Having already performed a survey in close proximity does allow a surveyor to draw upon that experience, knowledge, and prior work to help streamline the time on a current survey. This is one reason that, at times, we may direct a potential client to another colleague if they are more well-versed in a particular geographic area.

Okay, so now you know about the factors that can impact the time it takes Juliano Associates to prepare a survey, you likely still want some more specifics. Therefore, once again, in an effort to be as transparent as possible, we can tell you that we typically require twenty business days to fit a new survey project into our current workload, and then we typically can complete most surveys within twenty business days thereafter. So, from when you return a signed agreement to our office to the time you get the final mapping, it is typically a two-month process.
